Adaptive life skills play a crucial role in one’s ability to navigate and function in the world around them as well as to live in a safe and socially responsible manner. We work to teach and improve on practical life skills for adolescents between the ages of 10-18 years old.
Life skills that are taught and refined include:
- Community access skills such as riding a bus, and accessing resources like the bank and stores
- Daily living skills such as making a bed, vacuuming, and setting a table
- Occupational skills, Advocacy skills
- Self-care skills such as brushing teeth, grooming, dressing, basic hygiene practices, and feeding
The proficiency of these skills not only benefit the individual in terms of their ability to participate in their community but also builds self-esteem and a sense of independence.
