Speech therapy focuses on the treatment of children who need assistance to become functional communicators in their day to day life. As children grow, they are expected to achieve certain language milestones. When children do not achieve this, therapy activities are tailored to the individual child, using play-centered activities and structure-based routines as needed by our highly experienced Speech and Language Pathologists (SLPs) and Communication Disorder Assistants (CDA). As a team they will work with your child on all aspects of communication. Common diagnoses treated include, but are not limited to
- Articulation Disorders, Language Delays
- Augmentative/Alternative Communication
- Autism and PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorder)
- Dysarthria/Apraxia of Speech
- Language Based Reading and Writing Problems
- Pediatric swallowing and feeding, Social Thinking
When to Refer
A child may need a speech/language screening, evaluation and/or ongoing treatment if one or more of the following is observed:
- Delays in acquiring new sounds and/or words
- Difficulty being understood by others
- Difficulty using different language concepts
- Frustration due to inability to communicate
- Inappropriate volume/Poor vocal quality
- Lack of imitation skills, Rapid rate of speech
- Limited spoken words, Poor social skills
- Regression in language skills
